MG has officially revealed the all-new S9 PHEV, expanding its SUV lineup with a large, family-focused plug-in hybrid designed to deliver strong performance, serious practicality, and exceptional value
The MG S9 PHEV combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a total output of around 299 PS (295 bhp), paired with a 24.7 kWh battery that enables up to 62 miles of electric-only range (WLTP) for daily zero emission driving. It supports plug-in charging, typically allowing a full recharge in around 3–4 hours on a 7 kW home wallbox, making it convenient for overnight top-ups. Performance is solid for a large SUV, with a 0–62 mph time of 9.6 seconds, while still focusing heavily on efficiency and low running costs. Despite its size, it also offers a 2,000 kg towing capacity, making it capable for caravans or trailers, and comes well-equipped with features such as a panoramic roof, dual digital displays, 360-degree cameras, heated and ventilated seats (on higher trims), and advanced driver assistance systems as standard.
Inside, the MG S9 is built around maximum space and family usability, with a full seven-seat layout included as standard and a long wheelbase that prioritises passenger comfort in all three rows. The second row offers generous legroom and can slide and recline, while even the third row is designed to comfortably accommodate adults for shorter journeys. With all seats in use, there is still usable boot space for everyday items, and folding the rear rows opens up a huge load area for luggage or bulky gear. Large windows and a panoramic glass roof make the cabin feel even more open, while clever storage throughout the cabin adds to its practicality, making it a proper long-distance family cruiser rather than just a city SUV.
